We select the finest fleeces from Corriedale sheep, a 19th-century breed whose wool is both durable and soft, and from other top breeds raised on farms all across Maine. The fleeces for our winter blankets come from a small flock of sheep who live untended on Nash Island, off the coast of Northern Maine. Each year in the middle of June, we come ashore at dawn to gather the best wool, fleece by fleece, for its softness, strength, and range of natural color.
